Albion, MI, August 26, 2020:  As of October 23, 2020, the shared Executive Director position between the EDC and Albion Reinvestment Corporation will be split into two full time positions.  The organizations have shared leadership since late 2016 when it was decided by the two boards that having an experienced director was crucial to the City prospering and realizing the goals of the Master Plan.  Both organizations have similar strategic directions and realized the importance of reducing overhead to maximize the benefit of each dollar invested in the community.  However, due to the success of both organizations, the job responsibilities have exceeded the ability of one position.

Much work has been done during the past four years and with the end of the current agreement between the entities it was decided the best course was to separate.  The decision was not made lightly, nor a reflection of differences.  Albion is seeing growth and increased interest in development, as such the entities are at a point where it makes sense to individualize the leadership to reflect the changing strategic directions.

ARC is a public charity charged with combating community deterioration of the downtown business district.  Whereas, the EDC, is a Michigan municipal corporation that works to retain, expand and recruit business and industry in the greater Albion area and to strengthen and revitalize the local economy.  The mutual partnership has been extremely beneficial to both entities and the organizations will continue to work together to meet their missions.

“The Memorandum of Cooperative Agreement between the two organizations has been a tried and true approach that has worked well in other communities; and today we find ourselves at a crossroads where strategic direction and day to day management is taking us in slightly different ways and it just makes sense to part ways.” said Bill Dobbins, President of ARC. “We appreciate everything the City and the EDC has done to get ARC where we are today.”

“ARC’s work in the downtown is instrumental to the ongoing efforts of the EDC.  We will continue to be supportive of the non-profit with meeting their mission to revitalize the downtown as an ongoing community partner.” said Herman McCall, Board Chair for EDC.
