Mrs. Mae Ola Dunklin graduated from Grambling State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and a Master of Arts Degree in Education from Western Michigan University. Mrs. Dunklin was recruited by Albion to bring diversity to the Albion Public Education System in the Fall of 1972 and has lived in the area since then. She worked as an elementary teacher, Title I Reading Lab Director, and administrator. Mrs. Dunklin served as the Principal of Harrington Elementary School for 7 years, retiring in 2002, and after retiring she was employed by Albion College as a supervisor of student teachers and the Director of the Fritz Shurmur Center for Teacher Development. Mrs. Dunklin retired from the College in 2010. Today Mrs. Dunklin serves on the Board of Trustees and remains very active in the community. Mrs. Dunklin has served and volunteered in many boards and community organizations, such as Big Brother, Big Sisters; Albion Community Foundation; and Michigan Education Association. She presently serves on the Kids “N” Stuff Children’s Museum Board, Albion Sister City Committee ( a partnership of exchange with Noisy Le Roi and Bailly, France), Albion Annexation Committee, Albion Philanthropic Women, Albion Branch NAACP Executive Committee, Lewis Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Big Read, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and participates in a Community Leadership Committee. Education is very important to Mrs. Dunklin and she feels strongly there needs to be a transformation of the PreK -12th education system. Mrs. Dunklin is married to Robert, for 37 years, and they have five children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Mr. Dunklin is the President for the Albion Chapter of the NAACP, and second Vice-President of the State of Michigan NAACP.
