Monthly Update – November 2018
As 2018 quickly draws to a close, we are continuing to move our work forward on behalf of our community, and we are excited about the momentum that is building in Albion. In November, our team continued to focus our efforts on connecting with community members, raising funds to support our mission, and compile the necessary materials to submit the Big Albion Plan proposal to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
Bruce Johnston of Revitalize, LLC sat down with the Brick by Brick Podcast and shared an update on being made on the Big Albion Plan proposal and what it means for the community of Albion. The team at Revitalize, LLC have continued to be champions for Albion and our vision for downtown. Click here to listen to Bruce’s full interview.
In his interview, Bruce discusses his work at Revitalize, LLC, what it means to be a certified grant administrator and how grant administrators help communities secure and administer funds to support development projects. Bruce also shared his involvement in the Big Albion Plan process and the progress that has been made so far.
Following Thanksgiving, the holiday shopping season begins for many. As we work towards realizing the vision of renovated and occupied storefronts on Superior Street we believe there is the opportunity to be creative. That’s why, this holiday season we have sponsored, in partnership with Pure Albion, Albion’s first pop-up retail market. Collective Goods is located at 111 S. Superior Street and from November 24 to December 22 is home to sixteen vendors! We wanted to provide residents and visitors to Albion with another opportunity to shop downtown and support businesses and local makers.
The vendors are a mix of local, Albion based, businesses and makers, businesses that operate in a brick and mortar storefronts in Lansing and Chelsea, and others that operate primarily online. In the photo gallery below you can see the items that each vendor has set up at the market, but we’d rather have you stop in and say ‘hi’! Collective Goods is open Tuesday’s from 3:00pm – 8:00pm and Saturday’s from 11:00am to 8:00pm until December 22.
We are excited to continue working, with the support of the community, to reimagine downtown Albion!
