Monthly Update – October 2018
As the season changed from summer to fall the ARC has continued to have meaningful conversations about our vision for downtown Albion.
In the past month we’ve made progress on the proposal that Revitalize, LLC will submit to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, renderings of downtown properties have been completed by DK Design and we hosted our first Community Celebration and Open House.
The Community Celebration and Open House was held on Tuesday, October 23 at 315 S. Superior Street. Many community members joined us to discuss the possibilities that lie ahead for Albion, learn more about the proposed Big Albion Plan and view photos of the condition of many downtown buildings. The ARC team was present to share a brief update on the project vision, process, and progress.
“Just visually it will change (downtown) significantly. That’s number one. And I think visual representation then starts to change people’s attitude, so that’s number two. And number three is that then we become a desirable place for the opportunity to entice businesses.” – Albion Reinvestment Corporation Board President, Bill Dobbins
As community members enjoyed coffee and hot chocolate from Biggby, Apple Cider from Green Eggs & Jam Farm, and cookies from Foundry Bakehouse and Deli they shared fond memories of Superior Street and imagined the future of our downtown together.
“I think it’s going to bring people to move to Albion with all the new storefronts, all the new apartments. I think it’s going to help bring people to Albion. It’s just a big improvement for the city. It’s making downtown look really, really nice.” – Jerelene Bonner, 50 Year Resident of Albion
