Innovation in Healthcare and Housing
Community health can mean many things to many different people. At ARC, though our focus is Albion’s downtown and the opportunities for revitalization, we believe that our efforts will be more impactful when we consider the health and wellbeing of our citizens. As a Project Rising Tide Community, Albion has identified healthcare as one of five strategic focus areas. As the community works towards an action plan related to our communities health care needs we can look to other communities and learn from their innovative ideas.
Community enCompass is a community development organization whose mission “is to empower neighbors and build community in the core city neighborhoods of Muskegon.” In a recent blog, Community enCompass discussed challenges that residents in their neighborhoods were having as they searched for affordable housing. “Housing is complicated, expensive, and basic to our stability. If you don’t have a place to call home, it’s awfully hard to be healthy.” The blog goes on to highlight the work of the Community Health Innovation Region (CHIR) and their work, in partnerships with hospitals to better “link vulnerable patients to health indicators that go beyond medical care.
We must think of our challenges and intertwined rather than independent. Together we can be innovative and revolutionary as we work through our challenges. If you’d like to connect with Project Rising Tide in Albion, click here to like the facebook page to stay in the loop and get involved.
